Introducing the ONI Denim British Drill capsule collection, where Oishi-san, the visionary creator, collaborates with master Japanese craftsmen to pay homage to British army uniforms. Crafted with USA cotton for both warp and weft threads, this selvedge fabric showcases a meticulous selection of yarns, with a preference for harder cotton to enhance durability. Inspired by British military uniforms, the pre-weaving dyeing process imparts a deep, nuanced hue with subtle color differences. Woven on a 1950s shuttle loom under low tension using a special left-hand twill weave, the fabric features a unique "nep" texture reminiscent of scattered black pepper. This collection exemplifies ONI Denim's distinctive interpretation of Katsuragi Weaving, blending supple strength with the brand's signature style, brought to life by skilled Japanese craftsmen.
The jeans feature all the hallmark ONI details, including copper buttons, high-quality pocket bags, and a custom vegetable-tanned horsehide leather patch. Crafted in the Clean Straight fit, these jeans showcase a spacious top block reminiscent of classic straight-leg styles, coupled with a noticeable taper from knee to hem. The result is a distinctly "stylish" and polished appearance.
The legend of ONI is alive to this day. In recent years Oishi-San has devoted himself to experimenting with widely varying grammages, rough textures, different indigo dyeing techniques and novelty cuts while always maintaining a very limited production and wielding his experience in denim which now goes back more than 60 years.
